Joysteer - Driving a car with Joystick
The Swiss Paraplegic Foundation (SPF) is set to unveil a technological innovation for people with paraplegia and muscle diseases, "joysteer®", the innovative electronic steering system that gives you back your independence. A milestone in the history of mobility.
The SPF provided substantial financial backing for the new steering system. Orthotec AG, Vehicle Adaptation, a subsidiary of the Foundation, specialises in and is responsible for the professional adaptation of vehicles.
The "joysteer® system" offers a complete solution for controlling the steering, braking, acceleration, as well as all the important secondary elements via a joystick. The handbrake, lights, indicators, automatic gears, or windscreen wipers can easily be operated via a single system. Individually controllable force feedback ensures that the driver enjoys an active driving experience as he receives a direct response to his actions via the joystick.
Roger Suter, tetraplegic, confirms: "The system is really very simple and safe to operate. Automobility is vital for ensuring my independence."
